Kadallah Kromah
Still In Charge

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports has said that the head coach of the
national soccer team of Liberia is still in control.
The statement from the Ministry is in response to demands by fans to
remove Mr. Kromah at the helm of the Lone Star.
The fans are blaming Kromah for the lackluster display the Lone Star
exhibited when it met Togo in the 2006 African Cup of Nations and
World Cup qualifier that ended goalless at the Antoinette Tubman
Stadium.
Speaking through its Public Affairs Director, Mohammed Kamara, the Sports
Ministry said it was aware of the fact that fans are calling for the
coach's head.
Yet, it said, "the fate of the coach had not been discussed at the higher
level."
The Sports Ministry spokesman said, "everyone has the right to express
their feelings, but the decision is left with the Sports Ministry
and the Liberia Football Association."
According to him, it is the LFA that selects the technical staff and
sends same to the Sports Ministry for approval.
Mr. Kamara has, meanwhile, hailed the performance of Coach Kromah on
grounds that the Lone Star manager has been working under
constraints.
"He needs to be capacitated by the government before we can hold liable
for any error."
Kamara said for a coach like Kromah, who earns L$1,500.00 from
government, little should Liberians expect of him.
"Government needs to come in because without funds, the team will not
perform."
Kamara indicated the need to design ways of establishing a particularly
team for the Lone Star.
"We also need to call people of importance," he said.
