Kadalah Selects 16 Foreign-Based Players, But...

       With the Ethiopia Vs. Liberia match in the 2004 African Nations’ Cup qualifier scheduled on the weekend of March 28, 2003, the technical manager of the National football team, the Lone Star, Kadalah Kromah has selected 16 foreign-based for the encounter.

       Reports received by our Sports Desk have it that coach Kromah has already submitted the list of selected players to the Liberia Football Association (LFA), who are the managers of the National football team, the Lone Star for onward forwarding to the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

     Those selected for the Ethiopia match include midfield maestro Kelvin Sebwe (UAE), machine man Oliver Makor (Greece), utility player Zizi Roberts (U.S.A.), Prince Daye (Tunisia), Jimmy Dixon (Sweden), Dulee Johnson(Sweden), George Gebro (Greece) and Alvin “Power” Kieh (Cyprus).

     Others are Fallah Johnson (Indonesia), Larmin Ousmane (Sweden), Bill Neewray (Switzerland), Josephus Yenay (Germany) Dio Williams (Sweden) and Victor Konwlo (France), Louis Crayton (Switzerland) and Sunday Seah (India).


    The technical staff has left out the likes of Christopher Wreh, who is yet for find a club and Malaysia-based winger-cum-striker Josiah JB Seton, who is currently in top scoring form for his team.

      Meanwhile, upon submission to the Sports Ministry, it has been learned that the MYS which is responsible to secure funds for the Lone Star, said the number of foreign-based players selected by the technical staff is too much taking into consideration the present financial constraints the government is faced with.

     The Sports Ministry said coach Kromah must select the best from the 16 foreign-based for the game since some local players will be selected for the encounter. “The home-based team must be the nucleus of the team, while the foreign-based players are only invited to beef up where there are loop holes,” an official MYS told journalists recently at the Sports Commission.

      In a related development, 25 local players have also been selected to begin training in Monrovia for the Ethiopia match.
Topping the list are Varmah Kpoto (who previously played in Greece), Isaac Tondo (who just returned from South Africa on trials), Philip Karngba, Frederick Vah, Murphy Nagbe, Henry Gobah, Sackie Doe, Lartee Jackson, Boye Pratt, Varney Boakai, Shelton Barlee, Obediah Tokpah and Rufus Sarlue.

     The rest include Socrates Boryenneh, Oscar “Zaire” Glaydor, Joseph “Lepelepe” Sayon, Little Lewis, Amos Reeves, Emmanuel Nah, Torkpor Sonkaley, Francis “Razak” Carr,, Bill Sheriff, Roland Obedekah, Johnny Blidi and Prince Garwo.

     Meanwhile, the local-based players are yet to commence training for the Ethiopia match. According to reports, the training was scheduled have to commenced last week Monday, but the Sports Ministry is yet to secure funds.

    There is also another report that the Finance Ministry had informed the Sports Ministry that there was no money for the Lone Star to continue the 2004 qualifiers, while the Chief Patron of Sports, President Charles Taylor, assured Liberians that the Lone Star will continue the qualifiers.
