Nigeria's junior national basketball team, the Junior Tigers, yesterday in Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina-Faso defeated their Liberian counterparts 63-31 in the African zone three qualifying series for the African finals in July.

The victory has put the Junior Tigers on course for the ticket for the finals in Dakar-Senegal. The Nigerian boys came into the game with a lt of confidence having been rated highly as the competition's defending champions.

They shot into the lead at the jump-ball and by the end of the first quarter were already leading by 15 points.

By half-time, it had become obvious that the final result will be a complete blow-out of the George Opong Weah brothers.

The game against Liberia was the first for the team as they walked over Ghana on Wednesday.

The Ghanaians are the only team not participating in the championship. The other participating teams are Niger Republic, Cote d'iviore, and Benin Republic.

Today's game is the big test for the Tigers as they face the host, Burkina-Faso. Even though, the Burkinabes are not highly rated, playing before home fans will give them some added advantage.
