Joy Or Tear!

General Secretary, Yanqueh Borsay

July 6, 2006

For the past two months there have been serious concerns as to the delay of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to name a new Secretary General, since the newly elected officials took over on April 15. They were inducted at the Monrovia City Hill.

Reports say the Executive Committee Members will however scrutinize whatever names are put forth by the President. Other reports have it that the FA boss could take what many would term as a unilateral decision in appointing the Secretary General.

There is however a general view held by the observers that the position of the Secretary General should be opened if Mr. Borsay is to be replaced.

By this, they mean, people should be afforded the opportunity to apply for such noble position.

But this delay has created a serious public debate as many are battered over the local football house's action with Borsay still at work, and described it as a violation of the FA status.

Article VII: Section 8.1 of the LFA Status Say "The General Secretary shall be employed by the Executive Committee on a legal contract basis for four years, renewable in event of good performance. He/She shall head the secretariat; keep the minutes of the meetings of the Congress. He/She shall, in consultation with the Executive Committee, recommend for the employment and dismissal of the staff and the management of the secretariat.

Credible information gathered say that LFA boss Izetta Wesley let the cat of the bag last Thursday June 29 at the third executive committee meeting, when she put forward to the Executive Committee the name of the incumbent secretary general Yanqueh Borsay for consideration.

The FA boss quest to maintaining Borsay has so far produced backlash as many of the Executive Committee Members were said to have been divided over the issue.

The meeting was then adjoined for an extra emergency session for today Thursday July 6, at which time they are expected to reach a final decision on the matter.

There are 15 eligible Executive Committee Members.

They include: Sheba Browne, Garmondeh Karnga, Adolph A. Lawrence, Uriah Glaybo, Izetta Wesley, Pennoh Bestman, Peegee Wright and Mohammad Sheriff. Others are, David Korkie, Joseph Willie, Mustapha Raji and Rodney Wilson. The rest include Kaddiayatu Findley, Peter Kabia Abayomie Caulcrick and Idrissa Kaba.

Though the LFA executives are divided over Madam Wesley's choice of Mr. Borsay, information available to our Sports Desk say that intense lobbying between Izetta Wesley and her opponents is on going, and it is not clear as to which side is gaining ground ahead of the today meeting at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) which is the headquarters of the Liberia Football Association (LFA).

But reports has it that the President of Kortie I.E David Kortie popular known as 5-1-9 who supported Madam Wesley in March 18 election that she won with a narrow votes of 45-43 against then incumbent Vice President Siaka Sheriff, is said to have been batter on the FA boss quest to maintain Borsay.

Mr. Koitie, who has been a long time critic of the LFA chief scribe, is on record for pledging his support to Madam Wesley in the March 18 election LFA in Kakata, Margibi County, but at the same time told the LFA President then, "To support you, you have to remove Yanqueh Borsay".

Many believe that based on Mr. Kortie and others' concern for the Mr. Borsay to be replaced could have be a troubling situation for the FA boss if she decides to disregard their concern and force Borsay to the position.

LONA representative to the LFA Executive Committee, Peegee Wright who could prop Madam Wesley's chances of having Borsay in the position is presently in the USA, which observers say is another setback for the LFA boss.

But what is still coming out clear is that the football "Iron Lady" is still confident of seeing her choice sale through at tomorrow July 6 extra Executive Committee meeting.

In fact, there are reports that Wesley's former opponent, LFA Vice President Pennoh Bestman seems to be throwing his weight behind her which analysts say could metamorphose the entire scenario in favor of Borsay.

However the Sporting publics who have been keen on this issue as to whether or not the incumbent SG of the FA will survival tomorrow finally decision by the 15 eligible Executive Committee Members are still on fence watching.
