Journalist Wants Pro Players For Lone Star

A Liberian sports journalist has called for the involvement of more Liberian overseas players for the national football team, Lone Star.

Mr. Webster Cassel pleaded with the Liberian foreign-based players to follow the examples of the likes of George Oppong Weah, James Salinsa Debbah and Joe Armstrong Nagbe by putting in their best for the Lone Star.

He was speaking last week when a four -man delegation of the Sports Writers Association of Liberia (SWAL), headed by the SWAL President Hilary Justine-Colnoe and Secretary-General Julu M. Johnson, Jr. as well as Emmanuel Hinneh of The Heritage and Charles Yates of The Inquirer, identified with him after he recently fell sick.

While Mr. Cassel says he appreciates the efforts being applied by the younger players, the Inquirer Sports Reporter said that it is now time for the foreign- based players to sacrifice for their country.

“I appeal to the players to give out their sacrifice for their country because sports unify us. We want them to do this sacrifice for the country,” Mr. Cassel begged.

The appeal by Mr. Cassel followed the recent defeat of the Lone Star by Equatorial Guinea in Malabo.

The Lone Star will next month take on Rwanda, which went down 3-0 at home to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Many Liberians believe that with the involvement of numerous Liberian players, then the country could reach the finals of Ghana 2008.

The last time, Liberia only played with only two recognized professional players in Swiss-based goalkeeper Louis Crayton and Anthony Snorti Laffor of the South African side Jomo Cosmos.
