Cautions LFA, Sports Ministry
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The Liberia Football Association (LFA) and the Ministry
of Youth and Sports have been called upon to begin a vigorous public
awareness campaign to help reduce or avoid the occurrence during the
match between the Lone Star of Liberia and the Eagle of Mali when
thousands of Liberians threw various objects at each other following
the winning goal.
In a release issued over the weekend, Bobby Tapson,
Senior Reporter of The News Newspaper and a former Sports Editor,
said such a campaign is necessary at this time in order to reduce or
avoid such rudely behavior that could be damaging in the future in
case of a protest by an opposing side.
Tapson urged authorities of the LFA and the Sports
Ministry to take his call seriously and begin the campaign as soon
as possible especially so in the wake of another World Cup and
African Nations Cup qualifier encounter against Togo on July 4th,
2004 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
Tapson is also cautioning sports authorities against
the granting of permission of vehicles on the perimeter of the
pitch.
This, he observed, is hardly seen in almost all
countries except for Liberia which stands the risk of being punished
one day.
In conclusion, Tapson hopes that all is being done in
terms of full preparation that would ensure total victory against
Togo.
