The head coach of the premier league new boys NPA
Anchors, Frank Jerico Nagbe is set to reject any attempt to appoint
him deputy manager of the national soccer team the Lone Star.
There have been reports of Wilfred Tijani Lardner being
linked to head the Lone Star and Jerico to be his deputy, but the NPA
Anchors coach is not prepared to hold the post. "I am refusing to
become deputy under Wilfred Lardner because I have served as deputy
coach twice," Jerico indicated.
The NPA Anchors tactician believes that he is capable of
heading the national team in a capacity higher than becoming a deputy
coach. According to Jerico, he is not prepared to serve under any
coach whose achievements are below his.
Making reference to numerous laurels he has won as a coach,
Jerico considers the deputy Lone Star coaching post as an area too
little for him to occupy. "I am the only coach to become Coach of the
Year six times. So, I believe I can only go the top after serving
twice as deputy coach of the national team."
Following the resignation of Kadallah Kromah last year, the
Liberia Football Association (LFA) named Joseph Sayon alias Kofi Bruce
as caretaker. The Youth and Sports later rejected the appointment.
Last week, the Sports Ministry reportedly met with soccer coaches
after which time Wilfred Lardner was selected as favorite for the
position of national soccer team coach and Jerico Nagbe, the deputy.
The Lone Star will in March resume the 2006 African Nations and
World Cups qualifiers with a match against the Lions of Teranga of
Senegal in Dakar.
The Lone Star lies fourth in Group One with four points from five
matches. The national team lost the last match 3-0 to Senegal in
Monrovia. |
