For Ethiopia Match:
Janjay Innis Makes Services Available
-Trains With Local Players

March 21, 2003

One of Liberia’s foreign-based players, Janjay Innis, has made his services available to the national football team, the Lone Star, as it prepares for the 2004 Nations’ Cup finals.

In a chat with our Correspondent in Monrovia, pro player Innis, who is currently in the country from Switzerland to settle some family matters, said upon his arrival in the country he was invited by one of the assistant coaches of the Lone Star, Joseph “Kofi Bruce” Sayon to join the team in training.

He said the invitation was based on the fact that the coaches wanted top caliber players to beef up the team. “Since I was already in the country settling some family matters and spending some time, I was approached by Assistant Coach Kofi Bruce to join the local boys and train,” he disclosed.

Commenting further, he said apparently due to the signals the coaches were getting that some of the foreign-based players selected might not come, they decided to utilize his services since he was already in town.

“I accepted the invitation because Liberia is my country and I want to contribute my quota to the Lone Star as well. If I am selected in the final analysis, which of course I will be due to my current form, I will serve to the best of the ability in Ethiopia,” he noted.

Players Innis said he could not be at home and see the technical staff finding things difficult as far as getting foreign-based players that they need to win that crucial match is concerned. “Since I am already on the grounds, I am making my services available to the Lone Star for the Ethiopia match. My performance at the training session will speak for itself. I am not imposing myself, but let my performance speak for itself, thus qualifying me for selection for the Ethiopia match,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, when our correspondent spoke to some local players who are training with the Lone Star, they spoke highly of pro player Innis’ performance.

Speaking in one accord, the players said Janjay Innis is a good attacking midfielder who is very creative in making goals and can score once in a good position. “His presence on the team will be an added advantage for the Lone Star in Ethiopia,” the players said.

Lone Star’s administrative manager Jacque Wortoh Anderson also confirmed that player Innis is training with the local players.

Already there are reports that Kelvin Sebwe and James Salinsa Debbah have expressed their unwillingness to play in Ethiopia. Kelvin is said to be justifying with a new club, while Debbah said the technical staff should focus on younger players.

Coach Kromah will now have to rely on Oliver Makor, Prince Daye, Jimmy Dixon, George Gebro, Bill Neewray, Louis Crayton, Dulee Johnson, Fallah Johnson and Alvin “Power” Kieh as the foreign-based players. But with Janjay Innis already in Liberia, he is tipped to be selected to complete the 11 foreign-based needed for the match.

Some of the local players tipped for the match include Varmah Kpoto, Larmin Ousmane, Isaac Tondo, Henry Gobah, Boye Pratt, Shelton Barlee among others.
