The long anticipated LFA congress and general elections came to a climax last weekend when the incumbent S.Izetta Wesley defeated her Vice president for administration, Mr. Siaka A. Sheriff in a tough clash to become the association’s first female elected president.

Cllr. Wesley completed the term of the former LFA president, who is now the Speaker of the House of Representative, Edwin M. Snow and later joined the process to run for her own term with the hope of completing what she has already started to help improve football in the country.

The 12th ordinary congress and elections were held at the BWI campus in Kakata where hundreds of the association’s members visited the poll to exercise their political franchise.

The question as to who becomes the next LFA president was dramatically answered when Representative Rufus Neuville displayed the counting of the ballots.

Though he did not give the result from the tally immediately, but mathematicians at the occasion calculated and noticed that Mr. Sheriff was already defeated by two points.

The counting of the tally was like a sea-saw battle, with Mr. Sheriff taking the lead through out, but the story changed when Cllr. Wesley’s votes came in sequence till she defeated her opposition. Cllr.    Even though we were not fortunate to witness the 1980s LFA elections, but the just ended congress and elections were considered as the most transparent and democratic process in the history of the Liberia Football Association where hundreds of sports administrators and observers watched democracy displayed in sports.

The race between the two aspirants was highly competitive to the extent that no one could predict the winner, but the two candidates lately gained more momentum, but with the decisions of the electorates, Cllr. Wesley was declared the winner.

In the race for the Vice president for administration ,Mr. Pennoh Bestman went unopposed, thus automatically qualifying him for the position, while for the Vice President for Operation post, Mr. Adolp Lawrence out weighted Mr. Bedford Weeks 52-34 to claim the position as VPO elect of the association.

Making a brief remark at the occasion, the LFA president elect, thanked the electorates for voting their choice for the betterment of football in the country.
