FROM THE SECRETARIAT OF THE LIBERIA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION
IN THE WAKE OF A PRESS STATEMENT, CAPTIONED STATEMENT OF CONCERN BY
FORMER OFFICIALS OF THE LIBERIA FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION ABOUT THE PRESENT
STATE OF LIBERIAN FOOTBALL.
It behooves the Secretariat of the Liberia Football Association,
(LFA), with great sadness the manner, form and timing in which the
former Officials of the LFA Statement of Concern was published. The
Secretariat believes that the timing of the publication of this
statement has a serious implication on Fair- Play as it relates to
their neutrality in the forth coming LFA March 20, 2010 elections. The
Secretariat believes that this is a belated Statement of Concern being
expressed by these former LFA Officials, which in the opinion of the
Secretariat does not in any way help to brighten the path required for
the successful Football elections for the following reasons:
1. The undersigned former Officials of the LFA have never single
handedly or collectively engaged the Secretariat, Administration or
Executive Committee of the present LFA on any or all issues raised in
their statement therein mentioned.
2. Except where those of the former Officials who were elected, are
telling the Stakeholders and the Liberian people that their elections
were due to the helm of power, And was not of Fair-Play. This is while
they are now calling for Fair- Play in these elections.5.
3. Let it be known to the Liberian people that some of these Officials
were once allied to the President of Liberia and even family members
of the President, While others were Vice Chairman to the President of
Liberia who was then Chairman of the LFA. These Officials were given
all the supports by the Liberian government. So, why wouldn’t football
been of high standard?
4. The Concern Statement released by these former LFA Officials
insinuate that the present Administration and or Secretariat of the
LFA is responsible for the dismal trend of football in Liberia. What a
pity.
5. However, it is unfortunate for some of these former LFA Officials
to now disassociate themselves from the present state of affair with
Liberian football. Infact, they have undermined the present LFA
Administration by accepting what they rejected during their times of
leadership at the LFA
For Example, by agreeing to be a part of a so-called :”Lone Star
Mobilization Committee” and stripped the LFA off its functions to
ensuring Lone Star qualification to “Angola 2010” and “South Africa
2010”, African Cup of Nations and World Cup respectively, was wrong.
We are aware that some of these former LFA Official are seeking to
again gain prominence in the football circle through these kind of
publications.and undercover campaign against the present
Administration. It is unfortunate.
6. How could the LFA qualified the Lone Star for the African Cup of
Nations and Or the World Cup when the Lone Star Mobilization Committee
was legitimized, empowered and authorized to mobilize, receive and
expend all funds from Government and other businesses without the
involvement of the LFA. One of them was the Chairman of this Committee
while others played major role in kicking the LFA out of the Process.
Did this happen to them when they headed the LFA? The head of the
Mobilization Committee is yet to make a complete and comprehensive
report to the Liberia people of all funds collected during the Lone
Star qualification campagn to the African Cup of Nations and the World
Cup.
7. The Secretariat of the LFA wishes to ask this question to all well
meaning Liberian in the cause of Fair-Play as requested by the
crafters of that statement, is this the right time to have this
Concern Statement published by these former LFA Officials? Will it
help to bring harmony amongst football stake holders, and stop them
from having press wars with one another?
8. The Secretariat, as the central nerve of the LFA, does not see it
prudent to engage into a Press war with individual (s) it believes
should be making statement that would see the LFA elections as a way
of enticing the International football Communities looking at the LFA
with Positively instead of degrading it to Public ridicule. Their
Concern Statement is intended to put the Public at the throat of the
Secretariat and endanger the LFA Elections.
We therefore request in the strongest term, that these Former LFA
Officials withdraw their so – called statement and apologize to the
entire LIBERIA FOOTBALL POPULACE, in order to save their face from
this disgrace.
9. Some of these former officials of the LFA in the 80’s and 90’s
generated gate – in – takes amounting to (200.000LD) Two hundreds
thousand Liberia dollars at the time the United States dollars and the
Liberia dollars were on par in the 80 and the united states dollars
was 25% to one Liberian dollars. Can one of them show the Liberian
People their vision (s) for football in Liberia for the youth to
embrace?
10. Prior to Liberia’s first match in the FIFA 2010 World Cup and 2010
African Cup of Nations qualifying round, the Ministry of Youth and
Sports signed a unilateral Contract with Comium Liberia without the
knowledge, consent or Technical advise of the LFA. That Contract led
to the death of (9) nine innocent young Liberian. What has these
former LFA Officials said to the Ministry of Youth and Sports for such
behavior?
11. Why didn’t these former LFA Officials come at that time to
reprimand and or advise the Ministry of Youth and Sports about the
wrong in signing a unilaterall contracts with out the LFA involvement
if the LFA is sideline in football matters What happen to the
particular Official of the Ministry of Youth and Sports who signed
that Contract which resulted into the death of those innocent young
Liberian?.
Let those former LFA Officials show a single infrastructure
constructed during their reign in power.. Not the FIFA Gold Project
This Administration can boast of the acquiring and construction of the
Nancy B. Doe Stadium, the purchase of (10) ten acres of land in
Careysburg for the construction of a Technical Center and the purchase
of the Tusa field in Gardnersville for the construction of another
Technical Center.
Why are they shifting blame at this time. It is not right to hate one
party when two parties are fighting for a thing, but to unite them in
a positive manner, form and time to remain a twin’s mother.
Let the Secretariat be kept out of these kinds of bickering to make
its work easier and successful. Thank you.
“For the Game, For the World:”
