The two candidates for the presidency of the Liberia Football
Association (LFA), Counsellor Sombo Wesley and Siaka A. Sheriff have
intensified their bids for the top seat in Liberian football.
On Thursday, while the incumbent LFA boss, Cllr. Wesley met with
presidents of female clubs, Mr. Sheriff held an audience with the
chairmen of Sub-Associations.
The meeting with female clubs was held at the UN Drive residence of
David Kortie.
Afterwards, Mr. Kortie stated that the meeting was for the purpose of
being informed by the female clubs that Cllr. Wesley was contesting
the elections.
During the occasion, Mr. Kortie said, the LFA boss was quizzed and
then she answered questions. "She was able to tell us her plans and
pluses."
He noted that at the end of the day, the female clubs would draw a
conclusion as to who would be backed by them.
However, he disclosed that the decision would not be taken hastily and
that the female clubs would have to meet the other candidate, Mr.
Sheriff.
It is said that Mr. Sheriff would meet with the clubs at the same
venue today.
There are also plans by the female clubs to meet the other candidates
for vice president.
At the same time, Mr. Sheriff held what were made known as campaign
talks with the chairmen of the various Sub-Associations at the Finance
Ministry.
Details of the meeting were not released, but following the event, Mr.
Sheriff revealed that it was an acquaintance one.
"The best thing to do is to go to the extra mile when campaigning,"
said Sheriff.
He, meanwhile, denied claims by LFA Secretary-General Yanqueh Borsay
that he had tampered with campaign materials.
Concerning his recent trip to Ghana, the LFA Vice President for
Administration said it was on medical grounds.
