Reporter Roland M. Mulbah chatted with Mr. Shannon at his home
on the Old Road in Monrovia and now leafs through the details about
how the former Lone Star striker feels his ascendancy as president
of the LFA can be an instant unifier between the Ministry of Youth
and Sports and the LFA as well as the public.
Former Liberia’s Lone Star striker, Musa Shannon says, though the
LFA elections in March 2010 is still far, but the outspoken
administrator says his election as president of the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) will mean an instant unifier and a process that
will see the local football house be in peace with the government
once again through the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS).
“The public has negative implication about the LFA and analysts feel
individual at the helm of authority at the LFA are not in the
interest of football. Some feel the current crisis between the LFA
and the MYS is causing serious problem to the growth of football in
Liberia. But I say to you today that I am coming on board in the
interest of football and a process that will see our players compete
on the international scene as well as a partnership with the
government through the MYS.
“I don’t want to blow my own trumpet, but my life style from my days
with the National team of Liberia and others will speak for me.
“Though the time is still far for the LFA elections, but contesting
this election is very attractive for all Liberians who want to see
Liberian football develop and be on par with other top rated
countries in African and the world at large,” the former Lone Star
striker noted.
On the issue of the sponsorship of the LFA National league, Musa
said he has International partners who are willing to help in the
process and said “individuals have made lot of promises regarding
the sponsorship of the National league.
“We have made strategies to bring in sponsors for the league as well
as Television right.
“Teams will not just see the league as a process where they will be
participant, but a process where they will as well gain something at
the end.
“Our teams have suffered a lot and I think this is the time they
reap what they have sow over the years..
“We have partners who want to help us in the process of making our
league better where foreign players will run to play professional
football in Liberia, but we must all be committed in the process, We
also want to decentralized football so as to afford other kids
outside Liberia to be part of the process,” Shannon noted in a
positive tone.
Musa Shannon was born August 1, 1975 in Monrovia, Liberia. He left
Liberia in 1990 due to the onset of civil war, and moved to the
United States of America (USA) where he earned a scholarship to
attend Robert Morris University. He holds a degree in Business
Administration and was inducted in Robert Morris University hall of
fame.
He made his International debut for the Senior National team of
Liberia and formed an integral part for the formidable “George Weah”
X1. He scored his only International goal for the red, white and
blue outfit, Lone Star in 2001 in Accra when Liberia thrashed Ghana
in the 2002 world cup qualifiers, but Liberia missed out on the
prestigious jamboree just a point behind the Super Eagle of Nigeria.
Stakeholders of Liberian football are anxiously waiting for the
March, 2010 LFA elections to elect Musa as the next president of LFA
to take the country’s football to another level.
Shannon is not a stranger to administration as he formerly served as
International scout for First Wave Sports Marketing in the USA
shortly after he retired from playing soccer.
Currently, the administrator is the president of LFA premier club
Football Club Azziz Kara that is making headways in the elite stage
of football in Liberia.
Though the time is still, but pundits believe football should be
given to individuals who have passion for the world popular sports,
football. If that is the stakeholders’ pursuit, than Musa Shanon,
the former Liberia’s Lone Star striker is the next president of LFA.
