IE Secretary-General Rejects Martin

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The Secretary-General of the Invincible Eleven (IE) and Majestic Sports Association, Prince Richards has joined the long list of those rejecting the appointment rather than election of William Martin as the new President of the club.

Though Mr. Martin was mandated to take over IE by the club’s Board Chairman, Willard Russell, it was stated by the IE Secretary-General that he (Richards) would not recognize the new President.

According to the IE official, Mr. Martin would only be accepted to head IE unless the latter goes through an electoral process.

He said anything less than election would portray Mr. Martin as an illegitimate head of the Sunshine Yellow Boys.

Mr. Richards argued that elections would make the leader of IE to be more committed and answerable to the club.

The Secretary-General of IE clarified that there was not any malice against Mr. Martin but that the process leading to his ascendancy was what is being opposed.

“We recognize him as a fan of IE, but we will not allow him unless he passes through election,” Richards noted.

He added, “We don’t want a repeat of the Isaac Nyenabo scenario because we have learned a lot.”

Having declared that an IE President appointed by the Board of the club is not always committed to the team except the Board, Mr. Richards made it known that the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has been informed about the current power struggle.
