IE Secretary-General Calms The Storm

   Vincent Yelegar-IE Secretary-General

By Julu Johnson

“I want the fans to use this difficult time to come together and make IE (Invincible Eleven) what it should be,” were the words of Vincent Yelegar, Secretary-General of the IE Majestic Sports Association.

The comments by the senior IE officials have been prompted by the current poor the football squad is experiencing in the ongoing 2009 National League of the Liberia Football Association (LFA). The team has won only one match in twelve matches already played with 22 more games to go for the entire season, with the latest result turning out to be a 2-0 loss against LPRC Oilers last Sunday.

“IE is for everyone of us. So, we all need to contribute our quotas. They (referring to fans and supporters) should not be deterred by the many draws,” Mr. Yelegar pleaded with lovers of the Sunshine Yellow Boys, champions of the 2007 season.

The IE Secretary-General is with the optimism that all is not lost. “Out of 34 games, we have just played 12. Nothing is impossible with IE.”

He believes that “Liberia’s Darling Club” can turn the table around and win the championship this current season although based on the cooperation and support of every member of IE.

“Presently, we have been talking to our veterans and godfathers like Lawrence Doe, Willard Russell, Martin George and others to come in and see how best we can re-galvanize ourselves for the title.

“The next thing is that we have been talking to the players and technical staff to forego whatsoever benefits and give us the championship.

“I can tell you that they have consented and are in high gear to deliver the goods,” stated Mr. Yelegar.

He blamed the current difficulty facing IE on lack of support, well organized structure and administration that would plan and implement, be it short or long range. Another problem he sees is the failure to find someone to lead the team.

Mr. Yelegar, however, pointed to certain individuals who have been giving their moral and financial support to IE during this present stage. He named them as Deputy Finance Minister Tarnue Mawolo, Lawrence Doe, Willard Russell, Alfred Sayon, Momolu VO Sirleaf and Edward Molly. He also named Fallah Lahai, Dennis Toe and William Dewalt as the persons who have done their best for the club. Mr. Yelegar then lauded the players and technical staff of IE, headed by Gborboe Gbleewon for their sacrifice.

“I ask them not to be deterred as we will overcome our present problem.”

Mr. Yelegar has meanwhile declared the doors of IE opened to former players, fans and supporters of the club in the diaspora in case they want to gather any information on the club. He called on them not to forget IE in its dying days.
