IE Official Accepts Relegation

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The Liberia Football Association (LFA) finally laid the controversy surrounding the relegation of the Invincible Eleven (IE) to rest on Sunday, December 18, 2005 at the end of the 2005 national football season.

With IE being relegated along with Alliance FC to the first division, the newly appointed Secretary-General of the Sunshine Yellow Boys is not deterred by the LFA’s decision.

Mr. Prince Richards admitted, “that’s the rule, so, we have to live with that.”

The IE Secretary-General stated that it was already decided that the last two teams in the premier league would be demoted, reason for which Mr. Richards is not surprised.

Notwithstanding, he assured that the new leadership of IE, headed by Harry Sheriff, is still in the position to recruiting better players for the club ahead of the pending national league despite the relegation.

Mr. Richards believes that IE could learn from the example of NPA Anchors, who got relegated to the first division but is now in the premier league.

“NPA Anchors did the same, so, we are no exception to this rule,” concluded the IE Secretary-General.
