What appears to be a showdown between two of the nation’s oldest clubs
is expected shortly, as IE and Barrolle clash in a grand three days
Best-Out-of-Three year-end tournament at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium
(ATS) in Monrovia.
This grand year-end tournament has been organized by the chartered
members of both IE and Barrolle to climax the year’s sporting program
with a grand sporting festival between the nation’s two greatest
archrivals.
According to the organizers, the tourney has been organized to once
more engender the spirit of soccer between the nation’s two oldest
clubs and to also bid a grand sporting festival farewell to the old
year and welcome the new year for better sportsmanship.
The tourney is expected to run from 30 December to the l January 2006.
It is also expected to bring together some veteran IE and Barrolle
sports enthusiasts who have long been wishing for such moment.
According to the schedule of the tourney, on Friday December 30, the
Rollers will host the Yellow Boys at 4:30 p.m at the ATS.
On Saturday December 31, the Invincible Eleven will host Mighty
Barrolle at 4:30pm at the same venue.
Sunday, which is the final day of the tournament is expected to be a
do-or-die clash between the two clubs with either trying their newly
recruited players.
Just recently, the two teams met in the grand final of the Kasumu
Sillah Tourney hosted at the ATS. IE defeated the Rollers 3-1to
capture the tournament’s trophy. But Barrolle said the defeat was due
to some technical miscalculations and will not allow same to be
repeated. The club has vowed to capture the year-end tourney trophy
this time around.
At the same time, the Yellow Boys have promised the Rollers that they
will win every off-season match against Barrolle, especially when it
comes to winning a trophy and as such, will again capture this year’s
best out of three trophy.
Barrolle is expected to feature the legs of Eric Louis, the great and
stylish midfielder, Zauhon Kuolala, the slippery finisher, Theo Weeks,
and Rockie, the two deadly finishers.
While the Invincible Eleven is expected to retain her squad that
defeated the Rollers in the Sillah tourney. Amos Kollie and Abel Quiah
will lead the Yellow Boys’ striking force, while midfield giant,
George Boe along with other new players will hold the midfield for IE.
Meanwhile, the two clubs have agreed to always host a year-end
tournament between the two clubs to refresh sportsmanship links
between them and to welcome the new year with a better sportsmanship
