-Grand Finals Slated For Sunday
Once again the Sports Commission will be jam pack to capacity this weekend
when basketball fans, lovers and followers throng there to watch the
quarter, semi and grand final matches in the Liberia Basketball
Federation Knockout Competition.
The Knockout Competition began few weeks ago with all of the teams from
the various divisions participating. After weeks of intense
basketball actions, six teams reached the quater final stage. They
were IE, Barrolle, LPRC Oilers, Raiders, Timberwolves and NPA Pythons
. Uhuru Kings as defending champions was on standby in the semi
finals.
The first quarter final matches took place on Wednesday with LPRC Oilers
narrowly beating
Timberwolves, 90-83, while NPA Pythons outclassed Raiders, 101-56
points. Both Oilers and Pythons booked their place in the semis
following their respective wins, thus joining Uhuru Kings.
The last quarter final clash comes on today between traditional
arch-rivals, Invincible Eleven (IE) and Mighty Barrolle. The
last time the teams played was in the national championship league.
Barrolle won that fray convincingly. But this time around, IE has
vowed to avenge the defeat suffered at the hands of Barrolle.
As far as Barrolle is concerned, she said IE is no threat no day. “Our
concern is who we will meet in the semi finals and not IE that has
nothing to stop us,” a player of Barrolle boasted to our
correspondent.
Barrolle or IE will face Uhuru Kings on Saturday in one of the semi final
matches, while LPRC Oilers and NPA Pythons will face each other in the
other semi final matches.
The two winners in the semi final matches will clash on Sunday, March 22
at the Sports Commission in the grand final.
According to the LBF, gates at the Sports Commission will be opened at
12:00 noon to afford basketball fans, lovers and followers ample time
to purchase their tickets without rush.
The winner and runners-up will automatically qualify to represent Liberia
in the FIBA Africa Zone 3 ASHRY Cup Competition which starts in
September this year and later ends in November.
