Liberia’s “darling
club”, the Invincible Eleven (IE) (in yellow
jerseys) clinched a convincing 1-0 victory over
Group II rival, sensational LPRC-Oilers (in red),
Sunday at the refurbished Antoinette Tubman Stadium
in continuation of the Liberia Football Association
national football league.
Both teams, parading
a galaxy of national team prospects, entertained the
crowd through the entire first half to a goalless
score line.
The lone goal of the
match came midway in the second half from debutant
Johnny Blidi’s bomber, which sailed past the Oilers’
keeper to the amazement of the Oilers spectators and
the delight of the Yellow fans.
Johnny Blidi was
evidently the Man of the Match. The stocky
midfielder was fun to watch as he made dazzling
incursions into Oilers’ vital zone and orchestrated
tailor-made passes a la Kelvin Sebwe to the
amazement of the spectators.
The win gives IE a
comfortable 29 points, seven points ahead of Group
rival Oilers and a point ahead of archrival Mighty
Barrolle.
Blidi promises
to be a livewire for the national team if only he
justifies his inclusion Wednesday at the Antoinette
Tubman Stadium. The Justification campaign will be
launched under the watchful eyes of coach Kadala
Kromah and Administrative Manager Wortor Anderson.
In the female
department, Sunday, Tito United axed Pro Sisters
2-0. Christiana Myers and Shanta Newton were on
target for Tito.
Saturday’s grudge
encounter between Mighty Barrolle and Mark Pros
ended 3-0 in favor of the Gbezohn Boys. Barrolle had
earlier suffered 2-0 at the hands of Mark Pros.
Kwame Mensah scored
Barrolle’s first goal in the first half. Prolific
scorer Prince Goa sealed Mark Pros’ doom in the
second half with two goals.
