Eddie Kingston
Reports out of Monrovia indicates that the story has made a
lot of people upset. So we caught up with the player to throw more
light on what he meant.
When quizzed on the negative reaction the comments on the
last interview caused, Eddie Kingston replied
Eddie Kingston : "I'm a
footballer, not a politician. I have heard reports that I am being
pushed by George Weah to make certain statements. While it is true
that George Weah is my idol, what is happening between him and the FA
is beyond me.
He further said " This thing is way bigger than me, or George himself.
It is the future of Liberian soccer. By saying that I am not going to
pay to play for Liberia, I was responding to suggestions by
some Liberian soccer lovers, fans that know my talent level.
People suggested that I "slip something under the table"
Liberiansoccer.com : This Pay to
play statement has offended a lot of people in Liberia , The LFA and
the entire Lone Star coaching staff is totally upset by this
allegation.
Eddie Kingston : I apologize if that
statement offended anyone. I also would like to say to Kadala
personally that there is no love lost between us. I prefer to let my
game do the talking.
This year alone, I have played more than 30 league matches
with about 8 FA cup matches, scoring goals regularly. Well apparently
that went unnoticed and I have watched players being called up from
the A league in the USA and in other leagues - Players that are not
even starting on their clubs.
There needs to be a system put in place to monitor players,
and you guys as journalist have a very important role in this as well.
Lets not gamble with the future of our country football. We have too
much potential as a nation.
