Keen followers of Liberian football, especially supporters of the nation’s archrivals were disappointed and some taken to hospitals after heavy fighting broke up in the city of Buchanan, Grand Bassa County when the rivalry derby match involving Mighty Barrolle and Invincible Eleven (IE) was postponed due to what the match commissioner, Mr. Idrissa Kaba described as bad playing pitch.

The match was the Rollers’ 30th of the season, but was unexpectedly postponed, giving the Garmondeh Karnga’s boys two outstanding matches at the end of the Liberia Football Association (LFA) premiership title chase.

Commissioner Kaba, referees Ebenezer Stanley Konah and Joseph Kollie had early inspected the playing pitch as well as players before the unexpected postponement.

Fans packed the stadium, but unexpectedly just minutes to the start of the match, Commissioner Kaba, referees Konah and Kollie were seen leaving the stadium as information reached fans that the match will not be played.

Fans in their numbers gathered at the ticket both to demand their money with police being unable to control the crew.

The LFA ticket seller, only described as Mamie (in picture red) was mishandled by fans that had gone at the ticket boot to demand their money.

“We want our money right now. We paid to see Barrolle and IE,” some angry fans noted in an angry mood.

Both players were in high spirit, but it was Mighty that looked hungry to collect the maximum three points.

After the match was abruptly postponed, Mighty Barrolle’s President, Mr. Garmondeh Karnga expressed surprised and said” for me it was surprising. The match commission did not give me any information, but I only saw the commissioner and referrers walking out of the stadium so I started wondering what was going on, but later did I understand that the commissioner postponed the match due to what he described as bad playing pitch.

“I was totally surprised because match officials are paid two days by the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to cover a particular game, but for such a big game involving Mighty Barrolle and IE, the match officials came very late and did not even have the chance to carry on technical meeting.

“It rained this morning, but if the match officials had been here on time to do all the inspection, they would have told us early that the match would not be played and I don’t think we would have sold tickets to thousand of fans who turned out to watch the match.

“Looked what it caused us. Three police officers wounded with several fans taken to hospital as well as LFA officials and ticket seller beaten.

The match commissioner Mr. Kaba did not give us any information. All we saw him doing was picked up his beg and walked out of the pitch,” Mighty Barrolle’s president Mr. Karnga noted.

Meanwhile, Barrack Young controller (BYC) has taken pole position of the LFA Premiership table with 63 points.

The youthful LFA Premiership outfit achieved the feat September 20 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) with a 1-0 victory over Gedi & Sons.

LPRC Oilers and Mighty Barrolle followed with 62 and 58 points respectively.

Barrolle battles Mighty Blue Angel today at the Nancy Doe Stadium in Kakata, Margibi County at 4:00 PM
