Grandpa Doe Leads Al-Ahly To Zimbabwe

Bubbling finisher Francis 'Grand Pa' Doe will in about a forth night's time lead his side Al-Ahly's onslaught against hosts Gunners of Zimbabwe in the second round first leg clash of the African Champions league.

After taking a bye in the first round due to their pedigree and great credential, Egyptian champions Al-Ahly has being paired against Zimbabwe's top side Gunners who cruised to the second round of the African blue ribbon competition via a 6-1 goal aggregate of Zanzibar's club Mafuno.

Making his debut in the competition, the deadly Liberian striker, who had a stint with Greek side Attromitos and Major League Soccer (MLS) outfit DC United, all eyes will be on Doe to deliver or replicate his virtuoso form in the domestic league to the Champions league. Having once played in the grand final of the then Cup Winners Cup (now Confederation Cup) when he and countryman Ben Teekloh featured for Cameroonian side Tonerre Klara, where they lost to Algerian side JS Kabilye, the youngster will have something to prove for his side against the Zimbabweans.

Interestingly, with his native land Liberia paired against Zimbabwe in the qualifiers of the 2010 African Nations Cup qualifiers which begins in September, the clinical finisher Doe will be keen to prove something to his opponents as he will be making a return to country in September when the Lone Star engage the Warriors in the qualifiers of the 2012 competition. The match between Ahly and Gunners takes place on the Weekend of March 19-21.
