After Receiving 1997 Championship Trophy:
Grand Kru County Appeals To Citizens In The Diaspora
-To Enable It Successfully Partake In Natl. Sports Meet

3/ 19/ 2004 Monrovia-Grand Kru County was the happy recipient of a giant size trophy won in 1997 as football champions for the 1997 National Sports Meet on Friday, March 19, 2004 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) during the official opening of the 2004 National Sports Meet.

National Transitional Assembly Montserrado County representative, Ruth Caesar presented the trophy to the County Sports Association chairman Gbenimah Slopadoe, who later passed it on to the captain of the football team and the players.

Grand Kru County was given the trophy food good because it waited patiently for seven years to receive their trophy won in 1997.

Meanwhile, the County Sports Association Chairman, Gbenimah Slopadoe, along with the County
Superintendent Isaac Nyema, County Sports Coordinator  Karmoh Weah and Team Manager W. Kofa KOnwro are appealing to Kru County citizens in the Diaspora (United States, Europe, Asia, Australia & Africa) to come to the aid of the county financially to enable it compete successfully in the 2004 National Sports Meet which began on Friday, March 19, 2004.

According to Mr. Slopadoe, the citizens back are not in the position to support their sine they are still
picking up the broken after the 14 years of devastating war that sent thousands of Liberians to
their early graves and into the Diaspora.

He said the people of Grand Kru county will be pleased and happy where those in Diaspora, especially the United States and Europe to help their county as she take on another challenge in the National Sports  Meet.

He disclosed that Grand Kru County has won the football trophy for three times in the National Sports meet ranging from 1985, 1987 and 1977 respectively.

"WE the citizens are very proud of our county. These games will bring happiness to our people despite the hardship they are going through at the hands of rebels occupying the county. We can bring smiles to them if we the football championship back to back in this year National Sports Meet," he added.

Mr. Slopadoe has meanwhile released his email address and cell number to those citizens of Grand Kru in the Diaspora that want to help their county teams in the ongoing National Sports Meet.

Grand Kru County is one of many counties in Liberia still not accessible due to bad rood conditions on one hand and still under rebel control on the other hand.

"Sports is all we have to make our citizens in Grand Kru happy. We are therefore appealing to our citizens both at home and abroad to contribute financially to enable us partake successfully," he concluded.
