Going for Power!
June 14, 2006
In other parts of the World the ladies are playing a key role in
developing the game at all levels; training in the areas of
coaching, management, medicine and other areas are being put in the
proper prospective.
The Iron Lady, Tchiclas, who is the former owner of premiership side
Madelodi Sundowns, nick named the "Brazilian," is playing a key role
in the development of the game in South Africa.
Also, Nigeria's ex-international star Mercy Arkidia is doing the
same in her country.
In Liberia there is need to follow suit, and the requisite
authorities need to take the lead in encouraging it.
As the Oilers Sports Association (OSA) gears up for the elections on
Saturday, June 17, reports gathered say Madam Geraldine Doe Sheriff
is keen to run for the Presidency of the association.
Many have welcomed the move by Madam Sheriff and feel she should be
afforded the opportunity to contribute her quota at the apex of
management of the game in the country.
They said Madam Sheriff has a wealth of experience, after playing
the game prior to the civil conflict, where she became a star with
the Lioness.
Also, as President of the country's leading football female club
Titoe United Sisters, who are the current champs, Lady Zico, as she
is fondly known due to her exquisite style of football during her
days as a footballer, has shown purpose and command in executing her
managerial functions.
They noted that as the date for the Oilers Sports Association (OSA)
elections draw nearer; there is a serious need to give the female
football Iron Lady, Madam Geraldine Doe Sheriff, the chance to
ascend to the Oilers top post.
"The highly exalted position of the Presidency for the Oilers Sports
Association (OSA) would be an idea task without an erudite Sports
Administrator," they indicated.
Madam Sheriff's quest for the Oilers Presidency will indeed serve as
a motivation for other sports ladies to get on board.
She worked with bulk of the players, and her bid for the Presidency
could make a difference.
Though, the association has not yet released the guard-lines for the
pending elections but reports have it that the incumbent President
Sartee A. Sartee will not be contesting. The election is schedule
for next Wednesday June 21, instead of Saturday June 17 as been
reported in the media.
