George Gebro worries

Reported by Horatio Bobby Willie
Tuesday, 22 August 2006

Professional player George Gebro says he is worried over the slow level of preparation for Liberia’s first qualifying round match.

George Gebro told Liberiansoccer.com from his base in Cyprus that he has not gotten any information from football authorities as it relates to preparation for the game.

The player said he has also being reliably informed that football authorities were targeting only three European based players.
Gebro who has been left out of the list of players named by the technical staff said he would consider his future with the national team
.
The Cyprus based Liberian star is calling on sporting authorities to take the issue of the national team very serious.

In a related development, Liberia Football Association Vice President for Administration Pennoh Bestman has expressed opposition to plans by the

Technical Staff of the Lone Star to include only three European based players on the team.

Mr.Bestman said this would do the lone star no good. He is recommending that at least eight players be invited to beef up the squad. Mr.Bestman said it is only the European based players that can help Liberia make an impact in the qualifying series.

With the passage of the country’s first ever sports budget, many Liberians are wondering why the Youth & Sports ministry is afraid to expand the money on the Lone Star.
