Gedi &
Sons Buries IE - Haja Nips U.Eagles
April 20, 2006
Liberia's darling club Invincible Eleven (IE) sustained its worst
defeat ever in their 63 years of existence when they were buried by
Gedi & Sons 6-0 in continuation of the Liberia Football Association
(LFA) first division national league on Wednesday at the Antoinette
Tubman Stadium (ATS).
In front a fare crowd, the Patrick Garwo's side completely outclassed
their opponents who were relegated from the premiership last season.
On the day, the winners coached by former national team coach Vava
George played skillful attractive football to the delight of many. It
was three goals in each half, as the yellow boys sank without trace.
Neatly dressed in their red and white outfit, Gedi & Sons opened the
floodgate after 23 minutes courtesy of a sublime finish from Front
runner Henry Fahnbulleh.
Then in the 34th minute former Mighty Blue Angels speedy winger Jerry
Jimmie increased the tally after he was released by team mate Chris
Dukuly who in turn out paced his marker to shoot from close range,
thus beating former national team goalie Latee Jackson. Two minutes
later towering center back Omega Roberts rose above everyone to head
home a corner in ending the half 3-0 against the yellow boys.
Gedi& Sons started from where they ended as they began making inroads
in the second stanza. In the 53rd minute a neat exchange of passes on
the edge of the area led Jerry Jimmie to get his second, as he slotted
the ball pass goalie Jackson for the fourth goal.
A beautiful piece of improvisation from substitute Andrew Dolley set
up team mate Ambruce Wreh who played the ball beyond the reach of the
hapless Jackson.
Substitute striker Abdulaye Kamara then put the final nail on IE's
coffin with wrapping shot to end the match 6-0.
The win puts Gedi& Sons on top of the log in the first division, with
ten points from five games, and is ahead of Alliance FC on superior
goal difference.
Alliance has however played one game more than Sons.
After their 6-0 burying of IE, Gedei& Sons now meets zelors who are
still undefeated in four matches on Saturday.
In Wednesday's first match, Pro Anchors sisters demolished Determine
Sisters 7-0 in a female football classic.
Meanwhile, Haja FC woke from slumber with a 1-0 nipping of United
Green Eagles at the D-Tweh Sports pitch in the Borough of New Kru
Town.
