Fulani
Favors Izetta Wesley
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The head of Fulani Football Club, Alieu Bah, has
favored Counsellor Sombo Izetta Wesley for the presidency of the
Liberia Football Association (LFA).
In an exclusive interview, the Fulani boss said Cllr. Wesley
possesses the basic knowledge in that she has been the first female to
become a CAF Match Commissioner.
“She is somebody who has inter-relationship with FIFA,
CAF and WAFU. Let’s give her the chance because she has just completed
the term of Edwin Snowe and we have seen what she has done in a short
period while people say they have been marginalized.”
He enumerated a number of accomplishments on the
part of Cllr. Wesley. Among them, he mentioned, were the acquisition
of the LFA’s own headquarters at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS),
the purchase of the TUSA Field in Gardnersville and that of several
acres of land in Careysburg for youth soccer development.
With all of what Mr. Bah has listed, he strongly
believes that it is not meant now to eliminate a person like Cllr.
Wesley who has already started the blueprint for “somebody who is just
going for people to direct him.”
He described the coming elections as strategic to
the extent that there is a need to scrutinize the candidates.
“There are people who have been in the LFA and we know how they
functioned.
“There are others coming with some deductive reasoning,
saying that they were marginalized.
“I don’t think if someone is functioning, he will be
marginalized, because everyone will want to see the blueprint of his
office. We want to consider those as rhetoric,” Mr. Bah declared.
He added that instead of claiming to be
marginalized, it was necessary for candidates to tell voters what they
stand for.
Describing the post of president of the LFA as an
administrative one, the Fulani leader maintained: “You need somebody
who has a sound knowledge of analyzing issues and be able to take
decisions that will influence the entire football body.”
According to him, at this time, the chance should be
given to somebody who knows the area well.
“I mean somebody who has already functioned and
started building up a format.
“Let’s continue with that process and see how it will
end.”
He alleged that Mr. Sherif failed to perform in both
capacities as Vice President for Operations and Administration
respectively.
“Instead, he is shifting blame. We don’t want to
shift blame on anybody for now. Let’s look at what you can do. Let’s
give the chance to somebody who has already started formulating plans,
building up the minds and has traveled, interacted and has contacts
with the international community. Let it be continuity,” the former
Fulani player continued his position on the March 18, 2006 elections
of the LFA.
He clarified that his objection to the Sherif presidential bid was not
for personal reasons.
Mr. Bah said: “This is only reality. Let’s speak up the
facts. I think this woman has the basic qualification and the
requisite capacity to justify as the President of the LFA.”
Ahead of the Congress, he cautioned other clubs
to revisit their acts and see how best they could support Cllr.
Wesley.
The Fulani boss stated that perhaps Mr. Sherif
should wait and see whether Cllr. Wesley fails to prove herself.“Maybe
at the next term, if she cannot justify, then we can look at Siaka.
“But at this time, Izetta will be the best person for us to carry to
the LFA.” |
