A sport driven organization, Football for Hope,
headed by three ardent followers of contemporary football, Watanga FC
president, Mr. Musa H. Bility, LISCR FC president, Mr. Mustapha I.
Raji and Watanga FC Senior Vice President, Mr. G.Andy Quamie, have
made big donation to the eight sub committees of the Liberia Football
Association (LFA).
During the course of last week, Football for hope
donated eighty thousand Liberian Dollars (80,000.00 LD) and 40
footballs to the eight sub committees as a way of enhancing youth
soccer development as well as easing some of the problems faced by the
sub Committees.
Speaking to this paper shortly after the huge
donation, Football for Hope Executive Secretary, G. Andy Quamie said
his organization has bigger donations to make in the interest of
Liberian football as well as creating the atmosphere where young
Liberian footballers will take playing football as a career and not
just a hobby.
‘The donation to the eight sub Committees is the
beginning of bigger donations from Football for Hope in the interest
of Liberian football.
“We want our players to take football as a career
and not just a hobby. We are also creating an atmosphere where our
players will be taken to Europe and other parts of the world to seek
professional contracts,” Mr. Quamie noted.
Football for Hope has been hailed by sports
enthusiasts around the country including the Chairman of West Clara
Sub Committee, Mr. Edward Brooks.
Mr. Brooks described the donation as a goodwill
gesture that would go a long way in easing some of the problems faced
by sub-committees.
The long term follower of Liberian Football has
called on other organizations to emulate the fine example of Football
for Hope as the organization aims to improve Liberian football.
It can be recollected recently in Monrovia,
Football for Hope donated football boots as well as footballs to the
fourteen female clubs of LFA in order to commence the female league.
It can be recalled the LFA refused to helped
female clubs with materials to commence their league, but the
donations from Football for Hope allowed them to begin their league.
There are reports that Football for Hope, which
is headed by Mr. Musa H. Bility, wants to contest the LFA elections in
March, 2010 and the idea has been welcomed by many Liberians.
Meanwhile, what can be describe as fear has
grabbed the leadership of the LFA where the current leadership issued
a press release stating that some individuals are carrying on campaign
ahead of the LFA March, 2010 elections.
It seems the current leadership, headed by some
infants of contemporary football as well as administratively erratic
and lackluster individuals have seen Football for Hope a major force
in the March, 2010 LFA elections, which the current president, Cllr.
Sombo Izetta Wesley, described in many quarters as visionless and
inept leader wants to contest for the second time.
