Tension is said to be brewing at the Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) over the disbursement of that Ministry’s share of the US$58,000 Television Rights given to Liberia by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to reports, the Ministry of Youth and Sports recently requested the local football house to divide the US$58,000 among the Ministries of Finance, Youth and Sports and the Liberia Football Association (LFA).

There are reports that the Ministries of Finance and Youth and Sports received US$10,000 each, while the LFA got US$10.000. A source at the MYS said US$15,000 was reportedly allocated for Lone Star’s training, while the balance was to be used for operational cost including the compensation of the Technical Staff of the Lone Star.

Following the division the money in the requested order, some men at the MYS are said to be furious with Minister Max Dennis’ decision on how the money is said to be used.

According to our source at the MYS, Minister Dennis said he will use the money to erect an entertainment hall at the Ministry.

The source who preferred anonymity said Minister Dennis told them that the hall when completed will be rented out to generate funding for the Ministry.

The idea to share the money among the LFA and Ministries of Youth and Sports and Finance at the time more money is needed to cater to the national team has been criticized by the sporting populace.

They termed the decision as been insensitive to the plight of the Liberian economy and is said to be anti sports development.
