Focus On Bassa Defenders Jeremie Russell

           Bassa Defenders Training

May 23, 2006

"The present dismal performance of Bassa Defenders that has placed the team at the bottom of the nine-team log and risking relegation should be a major concern for the President of the club, Jeremie Russell, than sitting on the fence and criticizing without making input." These are the actual words of the Chairman of Female Football Committee, David Kortie.

Speaking to scores of reporters Monday, May 22, Mr. Kortie said he was elected for four years to develop women football, and he believes his method of outreach in the various counties is one that is geared toward improving female soccer in Liberia.

According to him, his move to establish women football in the various counties is significant for the country's female football program to scout talents for the various National female teams.

He pointed out that the extension of female soccer in the counties is his first plan in jumpstarting the process in which there will be competition at the district levels and even in schools.

By 2008, Kortie disclosed, the talent of some of the female player's would be developed and be ready to participate in the county meet.

From this process we would be thinking of forming various female National team ranges from U-15, U-17 to U-20.

Moreover, Kortie noted that it is not possible to develop U-15, U-17 and U-20 when there are no players as suggested by the Bassa Defenders President.

The female soccer committee boss further noted "you can not train teachers when the students are not there." By this he meant that one cannot train coaches when players are not available.

"Going to the press to criticize, especially on issues that you are not knowledgeable of, will in no way help to move our sports program forward.

"If you have another view as to how we can jump-start the process, come let us discuss to push the game forward," he concluded.

Pundits say while it is true that they respect the view of the Bassa Defenders President Jeremie Russell, the chairman of female football committee David Kortie should highly be commended for his bold initiative in developing female soccer in all the parts of the country.

They said the Female soccer committee boss' move should be seen as a major boost in given breath to a process that is leading to the developing of the female game in the country.

They noted that the Bassa Defenders President should be concerned about his team that is at the bottom of the first division table, and risks relegation due to their dismal performance in the ongoing LFA division one competition.

Recently Bassa Defenders President Jeremie Russell criticized the method of decentralization female football by the local football house.
