Female
Players Back From Ghana
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
( 4/09/2004 Monrovia) -Two female players of
Earth Angels, Dehkontee Sayon and Veronica Amoah are back from Ghana
where they had gone on a mission to play for that country's national
team, the Black Queens.
During the trip to the Ghana, Veronia Amoah was
reportedly selected on the national team, although she didn't play,
while the champions club Coastal Warriors expressed interest in
signing Dehkontee Sayon.
When the players returned, it was gathered that
they had to come back to Liberia because the Black Queens have been
eliminated from the Olympic qualifiers by the Super Falcons of
Nigeria, which made it unnecessary for them to stay there.
However, during an interview, Dehkontee Sayon
said she was compelled to return home because there were rumors of a
plan to form a female national team for Liberia.
"I prefer to wear my country's colors rather than another
country's," the Earth Angels player revealed. She also said, "I came
with high sport because I saw other girls doing something out there."
Dehkontee used the moment to call on George Weah to liaise
with football runners in the formation of a national female for
Liberia with the hope that female players from Liberia can do better
out there.
Meanwhile, the female player confirmed reports that she drew the
attention of Ghanaian champions Coastal warriors while there.
She, notwithstanding, said she had to return because the
Ghanaian league won't be starting until October, 2004.
