Female Basketball On National Duty

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.

The Liberia Basketball Federation (LBF) has afforded female players the opportunity of displaying their talents on the international scene.

The female basketball will for the first time in the history of Liberia have an international assignment when the country hosts the Zone III preliminaries of the African Women
Championship.
'
All of the Zone III countries were expected in Monrovia for the preliminaries, but for an apparent fear of insecurity in the country, the LBF has named only Niger as the team coming to
Liberia.

Therefore, it has been disclosed by the basketball authorities that the Lone Star of Liberia female squad will meet their Nigerian counterpart in a two-match affairs at the Sports Commission on Broad Street.

According to the fixture released by the LBF, the first match will see Liberia hosting Niger on Friday, April 8, while the latter will subsequently serve as the home side a day later.

The governing body of African basketball, FIBA-Afrique has assigned Youssouf Jean Marc Cisse of Ivory Coast and Abdourahme Toure of Guinea as referees for the two matches. FIBA-Afrique
also named Daniel Adu Poku of Ghana as Technical Commissioner and Arnaud Sevaux as Statistician.

However, the LBF said it has sought permission for its league matches to coincide with the international matches.

Thus, Friday, April 8 will see NPA Pythons meeting LPRC Oilers while Mighty Barrolle will face Invincible Eleven (IE) on Saturday, April 8.
