The membership of the Federation of Liberian Youth (FLY) has out
rightly rejected the reported suspension action by the Ministry of
Youth and Sports against the leadership of the Federation.
FLY, in a release widely circulated in Monrovia Sunday termed the
suspension as unacceptable and ill-intentioned.
Additionally, the Federation has described the action by the Ministry
as a gross interference into its affairs for which it claimed the
Ministry lacks the legal authority to do under the laws of the
Republic of Liberia.
The youth group said its existence is legalized by an enactment of the
National Legislature, and as such, the action demonstrates the
Ministry's failure to live up to its statutory obligation, a
responsibility FLY claims the MYS has continuously renege on.
"As an autonomous and independent entity, the membership holds the
view that such action contravenes the spirit and intent of the current
restoration process taking place in the country as enshrined in the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement signed in Accra, Ghana."
More so, FLY said that the the suspension was manipulated by some
officials in both the Executive and Legislative branches of Government
for their selfish political intentions.
The Federation of Liberian Youth has sounded a caveat to those
orchestrating the problem that they risk being exposed because such
divisive tendency contradicts the process of peace-building in the
country.
At the same time, the membership said it has confidence in the
leadership and remains committed to it.
Meanwhile, FLY has warned youth groups and individuals not to take the
risk of registering for the "so-called elections" being arranged by
some ill-intentioned personalities at the Ministry of Youth Sports.
