By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
A soccer tournament in honor of the former Public
Works, now president aspirant, Hon. Emmet A. Taylor, is slated to end
this coming weekend at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in
Monrovia.
Mr. Taylor is aspiring to become the Standard
Bearer of the National Patriotic Party (NPP) for the pending 2005
Legislative and Presidential Elections.
The tournament is being organized by the Movement for
the Promotion of Emmet A. Taylor for the Standard Bearership of the
NPP.
The man of honor, Mr. Taylor is to be on hand at the
ATS to grace the final session of the tournament.
The honoree, according to the organizers, will take the
kickoff for the final, at which time he would be gowned for his
humanitarian and developmental efforts rendered the Liberian people.
Prior to the grand final, two old-timer teams are scheduled
to face each other in an exhibition match. Following the final, each
community will receive a certificate of participation while winners
would be awarded.
The Emmett A. Taylor Tournament began on
Saturday, April 2, among ten teams in Central Monrovia.
In the opening match, Community Seven whipped Community
Six 2-1 at the Airfield Soccer Pitch while Community Five defeated
Community Four 1-0 in Lakpazee, Sinkor.
A day later, Community Ten fell to Community
Eight 3-2 at the Logan Town sports ground.
Meanwhile, participating teams in the ongoing tournament are
commending Hon. Taylor for his enormous sacrifice he continues to make
in the interest of the larger society.
They called on him to prioritize youth programs
when elected to the Liberian presidency.
