Eight Counties Heading For ATS

      The special inauguration football tournament organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in conjunction with the Ministry of Internal Affairs is expected to kick off on January 12, 2006 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) with eight counties participating.

      According to the Acting Director of Public Affairs of the Youth and Sports, Mr. J. Caesar Padmore, the tournament will be played on a knockout basis.

      He said no Lone Star, premier and first division players would be allowed to participate. But he also said only six second, third and fourth division players are allowed to partake for each of the counties of their choice.

        The theme of the tournament is “National Healing”, while the teams are divided into two groups. In Group A are Lofa, Grand Gedeh, Sinoe and Margibi Counties, while Grand Bassa, Gbarpolu, Nimba and Bong Counties find themselves in Group B.

      On January 12, there will be two matches with Grand Bassa County facing Nimba County, while Lofa County will take on Sinoe.

     As for the January 13th matches, Gbarpolu County will meet Bong County as Grand Gedeh battles Margibi County.

     The semi finals will be held on January 14 with two matches whereas the grand final and third place matches would on at the ATS on January 15.
