Egyptian Coach Leaves Soon

Egyptian Mohmoud Hussein Shawky
May 1, 2006
From all indication it appears that Liberia's Egyptian coach Shawky
Hassien Mahmmoud Shedad Eldin will leave the country back to his
native land shortly due to what he termed the continuous refusal of
the country's sporting authorities to cater to his needs.
The coach came to the country as the new handler of the Lone Star
based upon an arrangement between the Ministry of Youth and Sports
then under Wheatonia Dickson Barnes and the Egyptian Embassy in the
Capitol Monrovia.
The coach was unveiled on 3, February to guide the Lone Star to the
2008 Nations' cup qualifiers. He then voluntarily offered to start
from the grass root as a means of putting the country's football on
its rightful footing. The Egyptian Government was to shoulder the
payment of the highly experienced tactician leaving the issue of
Car, and housing with their Liberian counterparts. Up to date, such
obligation has not been met by the Liberian Government.
On Friday, it was reported on some local stations that the issue of
the coach car and other basic needs have being settled. And to
authenticate this matter, the Analyst visited his Congo Town
residence on Friday, but surprisingly the news was untrue. The coach
was still without a car or any form of transport for that matter. He
was still without the 24 hours current, as he was being supplied
current ten hours per day.
Speaking through his interpreter as usual the coach hinted that
there was in fact no pipe born water at his new home, and only
managed to clean his face during the morning hours by using his
mineral water.
He noted that he was called to the ministry of Youth and sports
during the week where they expressed regret over the problems he was
faced with, and promised to solve them as quickly as possible.
According to them he noted the ministry did not reach the agreement
in giving him current for ten hours, and stated that it was beyond
them.
Despite their promises to settle the problems he was faced with,
there was no call up to 4: 30 PM. Up to that time he indicated he
could not tell as to whether the water problem was settled though he
some individuals attempting to work on the pipes later during the
day.
He then heaped praises on Deputy Sport Minister Mambu Richards who
he described as a true friend and brother. "He means business, he
even took his own $USD100.00 to settle the issue of current at the
house", coach Shawky opined. "He is always there for me. He is
highly experience and knows football", he stated.
The coach said he is not faced with much problem except that he was
in need of a car or transport, pipe borne water and 24 hours
current.
"I will leave soon due to the inability of the Liberian sporting
authorities to settle these few problems," he intimated.
Pundits say this is a major set back to Liberian football, and are
calling on President Sirleaf to intervene quickly in resolving this
matter. They maintain that this is the last chance for Liberian
football, and an attempt for the coach to leave would spell a
dangerous omen for the country.
They note that the coach should be treated just the same way any
other expatriate doing a piece of job. Time is running out let the
Government take heed.
