Egyptian Coach Failed To Adapt
-Assistant Sports Minister

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
V. Murvee Gray, the Assistant for Sports, has claimed that
the recent threats by the head coach of the national football team
of Liberia was a result of his failure to adapt to the Liberian
society.
However, Mr. Gray disclosed that the Sports Ministry has met
one of the coach’s major demands following the purchase of a brand
new vehicle in a Toyota 4 runner.
He declared that the other request by the coach to live in
the city center was out of the question, arguing that the coach
needed an environment quite enough to concentrate on the task before
him.
Minister Gray declared that since the coach's arrival,
he has been residing in a three-bedroom apartment acquired and being
paid for by the Liberian government.
The Assistant Minister for Sports further stated that
the coach's residence boasts of a DSTV, running water and 15-hour
electricity, although he pointed out that the generator needed some
servicing.
"For now, it's not possible to provide 24-hour
electricity because we are just from war," noted the Assistant
Sports Minister.
"We understand that he has been working with the youths
in Egypt, that is why we were happy to have him here. Some people
say he doesn't understand English, but we feel football doesn't have
language barrier.
"We have been trying our weak way because Liberia is not like
before. The protocol is too discouraging to the extent that
something cannot be done at once."
"So be it, he wants to go, but we have been trying our
best for him," Assistant Minister Gray continued.
According to Minister Gray, the coach could not be
responded to immediately on grounds that the new badge of officials
at the Sports Ministry were still not confirmed to perform their
task.
He admitted that the process in responding to the Sports
Ministry's request made to the Finance Ministry on behalf of the
coach impeded the process, too. |
