13 EC members boycott LFA league

The Liberia Football Association on Thursday held the official closing ceremony of its 2009 league season.

The exercise which took place at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium was boycotted by 13 Executive Committee members including the LFA two vice Presidents for Administration and Operations Pennoh Bestman and Adolph Lawrence.

The rest of the LFA EC members that did not show up for the occasion are Musa Bility, Jacob Bandiyo, Sheba Brown, Sekou Konneh, John Mulbah and Theophlilius Gould.

Still others are Ben Fredrick’s, Peegee Wright, Joseph Willie, Beaford Weeks and Idresa Kaba.

There was also no shadow of a representative from the Liberia National Olympic committee.

No reasons were given by the secretariat of the local football house for all those big boycotts.

Despite those setbacks, the ceremony went ahead with teams and individuals being awarded for their outstanding performances during the year under review.

Mighty Barrolle swept all the individual awards in the premier category.

Their Head Coach Eric Thompson was honor the Best Coach of the year, while the Best goalkeeper and Most Valuable Player awards went to Samuel Cooper and Nuzhon Kulala.

Weaker Wesseh and Sam Peters also won the highest goal scorer and Best defender awards.

Barrack Young Controllers were decorated Knockout Champions for the year 2009.

Alliance FC and Green Pasture FC were officially crowned champions of the first and second divisions.

Here is a list of cash prizes given to the teams: Mighty Barrolle: two hundred fifty thousand Liberian Dollars, LPRC Oilers: one hundred twenty five thousand Liberian Dollars as runners up and also one hundred thousand Liberian Dollars as Knockout runners up.

BYC: one hundred fifty thousand Liberian Dollars as Knockout Champions, Alliance FC: one hundred thousand LD as first division Champions, and Tony FC: seventy-five thousand LD as first division runners up.

Green Pastures FC: fifty thousand LD as second division Champions, Vinton Professional: thirty-seven thousand Liberian Dollars as second division runners up.

Aries FC: Fifty thousand LD as third division champions, FC Fassell: twenty five thousand LD as runners up, Earth Angels: fifty thousand and twenty thousand LD as both female and Knockout Champions respectively, Senior Professionals thirty-seven LD as female division runners up and Professionals Anchors fifty thousand LD as female league runners up.


Members of the media were also awarded for their professional coverage of the league season.

Star Radio’s Anthony Stephens and Roland Mulbah of the Liberiansoccer.com and the champions and sports day news papers were awarded Electronic and print reporters of the year.

The LFA 2009 closing ceremony was marked by mix feelings with some football followers questioning the decision of the Competitions Committee to give all the premier awards to Mighty Barrolle.

But the Co-Chairman of the committee and President of Mighty Barrolle Garmondeh Karnga said the club was given the awards based on merit.

According to him every award given to the team worth deserving and denied reports that he interfered in the process.

Meanwhile no definite date was announced by authorities of the LFA to commence the 2010 league season.
