Since the glory days of the legendary George
Oppong Manneh Weah, James Salinsa Debbah, Joe Nagbe, Christopher
Wreh and few other Liberian players who rocked fans in Europe with
their artistic skills, mesmerizing dribbles and clinical finishing
in the Italian Serie A', French Ligue 1 and English Premiership,
Liberian players are now virtually in oblivion, as their
counterparts from Ivory Coast, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria etc. are making
tremendous headways as Football crazy fans storm video clubs and
other entertainment areas to see the likes of Didier Tebily Drogba
Yves, Emmanuel Sheyi Adebayor, John Mikel Chuwendu Obina, Michael
Bison Essien etc, wooing captivating many round the world including
Liberians as their players relatively settle for mediocrity.
Currently, no Liberian player can make a
breakthrough in any of the five top leagues in the world which
include the English Premiership, Spanish Premier Liga, Italian Serie
A', German Bundesliga and French Liga 1.
Also, they are not found in the second stage
of European leagues which include: Portuguese Super Liga, Russian
Premier Liga, Belgian Jupiler and the Dutch Eredivisie.
What could be term as doubt over the soccer
career of Liberian International resourceful midfielder, Dulee
Johnson is looming in the corridor after reports that the former AIK
Solna player and his Israeli club, Maccabi Tel Aviv coach are on bar
terms.
According to Nordic Africa News, the player who
is on vacation in Sweden may not return to his Israeli club, Maccabi
Tel Aviv due to the controversy with his coach.
The reports also say the player and his club
have reached an arrangement to have the player seek contract
elsewhere, probably in Europe.
Dulee, who formed part of Liberia’s Lone Star
squad in Mali for the 2002 African cup of nations as the youngest
player, confirmed the news to Nordic Africa News in a short email
stating that he and his coach actually had some problems, but did
not state the problems.
He also confirmed that he reached an agreement
with Maccabi to return to Europe perhaps due to the problem with the
coach.
Dulee signed three years contract with Maccabi
in 2008 after a shaky period with Swedish premier top flight outfit
AIK Solna which led to a match suspension and regular talk with a
psychologist.
The problems with Liberian players showcasing
in Europe’s top rated leagues are now getting even worse with the
latest that Dulee is expected to leave such modest league.
The question now is: which Liberian player will
actuall make the breakthrough?
Will it be Theo Weeks of Turkish Super Lig
outfit AnkakaSpour, Alex Nimely Man City youth team or Dioh
Williams? We wait to see.
