Dulee Criticises UAF selection of Moroccan as Africa's best ever

.....says Weah should have taken that award

Dulee believes Weah is the best ever

Introducing Dulee Johnson Website

Liberian international Dulee Johnson has expressed surprise over the naming of a little known Moroccan as the best African player of the century by the newly-organized Union of African Players (UAF).

The midfielder said, in an interview, that the choice of  Mustpha El Haddaoui over a great player like fellow Liberian George Weah left a lot to be desired.

" I respect the choice of UAF but you cannot compare the achievements of that player with Weah's. For me Weah is the best African footballer of the century," Dulee noted.

UAF held its first congress recently in Algeria where the organization named Haddauoi.

The group said Haddauoi topped a survey it conducted among over 800 Africans playing professional football.

" If what I read is true, Weah was not even named among those short listed for the award. I think it was a disservice not to even name Weah among those who were short listed. Any list of best African footballers that does not include Weah must be thrown into the dustbin," the AIK Solna midfielder added.

"Weah was voted Africa's best player three times. In 1995 he was named FIFA, Europe and Africa best player and added three other awards. No player has ever won six titles in one year. So UAF needs to explain how this player that no one has actually heard about came to be named Africa's best ever.

"I think this is not only an insult to Weah but a disservice to young players who see Weah as a role model,"  Dulee noted.

He stressed that beside the former AC Milan striker greatness on the pitch, he dug into his pockets to rescue an entire nation when his country (Liberia) was in difficult situation.

"Weah was the one who made it possible for the Lone Star to qualify for the first time for the African Cup of Nations in 1996 when Liberia was at war," the 22-year midfiedler noted. "If you are measuring the greatness of a player you must also take that into consideration," Dulee said.

"The last time I checked FIFA records for the best players I saw Zidane, Ronaldinho, Weah, Ronaldo, among others. Weah is the only African player on that prestigious list, so there is no way that Haddaoui can beat Weah for the best ever African player prize," Dulee concluded.
