Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) candidate in the upcoming November 10, 2009 senatorial by-election for Montserrado County has promised to take the county sporting programs at the highest level when elected.

Madam Geraldine Doe-Sherif, widely known in Liberian sporting circle as Jose Mourinho, said her ascendancy at the senate will see Montserrado County develop in sports, especially at the level of the national County meet which the county has had lackluster and erratic performances for a protracted period.

Madam Sherif, who formerly served as President of Tito Sisters and LPRC Oilers, Liberia Football Association (LFA) female club and premier club respectively, said she will use her knowledge in sports, especially football to development the younger generation as well as unite the citizens of Montserrado County and Liberia at large.

The ardent follower of contemporary sports, who also served as Executive Committee (EC) member of the Liberia Football Association said “We are determined to invest in the improvement of sports to transform our people. We have realized that sport; especially football is the world’s popular sport which has brought people with diverse backgrounds together regardless of their affiliations.

“Sports unit and create strange bedfellows. Let us unite and I believe that sports can serve as an important factor to peace-building, development and reconciliation in Montserrado and Liberia at large,” (CDC) candidate Madam Geraldine Doe-Sherif noted in a positive tone when she spoke to liberiansoccer.com.

The Montserrado County senatorial by-election hopeful, Madam Sherif is among few candidates who have sports development in their platforms.

The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) is expected to end the campaign for its candidate today, Saturday, November 7, 2009 at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS) in Monrovia where hundreds of supporters are expected to turn out in their numbers to give their support for the lady who has vision for the younger generation of Montserrado County, as well as Liberia.

Meanwhile, Former Liberian soccer legend turned-politician and Standard-bearer of CDC, King George Oppong Manneh Weah will serve as a major boost for Madam Geraldine Doe-Sherif quest to emerge as winner of the Montserrado County by-election.

At one of the party’s gathering, Weah told thousands of supporters that his return is to give his endorsement and full support to Sherif.

“I have traveled miles to come here for us to regain our seat by supporting Geraldine. The seat must come back to us”, the former Liberian soccer ambassador said.
