Decisive Test For Duo In African Champions League

Two of Liberia's brightest stars at the moment, Anthony Snothi Laffor and Ben MCcarthy Martins are in weighty and decisive test today as their respective sides aim to book a place in the 1/8 stage of the CAF champions league.

After a spirited 0-0 draw in the second round first leg tie in Abidjan against Ivorian champions Africa Sports, the ruthless striker Martins is leading his side Zesco United onslaught in the Zambian second largest city Ndola.

With club mates Rainford Kalaba and Enock Sakala, the pacy Liberian striker Martins, is yearning to cruise to the big stage of the African blue ribbon competition.
"We need an early minute goal to unsettle our oponents and then go on to win", the Zambian league champs hit-man told liberiansoccer.com.

The Ivorians under Italian trainer Antonio Nobile are amongst the veterans in such a lucrative competition, and their experience is something they will be counting on.
However, the Italian trainer is unpopular with the fans after two losses in as many matches, and the pressure will be on him and his charges to deliver.
The match takes place later this evening with the referee Pelembe Agostinho from Mozambique.

Elsewhere in South Africa, the ever green Anthony Laffor will be rallying his men to ensure they cancel a 2-1 goal deficit to eliminate Ugandan elite side Kampala City Council.

Laffor had put his side infront in the first leg in Kampala, but the hosts raised their game as they netted in two quick goals in the dying ambers of the melee to lose 2-1.

A 1-0 win will see the South Africans through in the round of 1/8, and the match slated for 20: 15 PM this evening, is expected to be a cracker.

The match takes place at the Johannesburg's BID Vest pitch with Super Sport Coach Gavin Hunt in a rather upbeat mood ahead of the clash. "We created a lot of chances in the first leg, but but we let ourselves down. We are however not out of it and the players want the record straight.

"The Ugandans are very small in stature, but have mobility upfront. If we play to our true potential, we will come away with a victory. We obviously have to win this game and we will play accordingly", the coach noted on the club's website.

The Matsatsantsa as Super Sport is known has injury boost due to the reappearance of hit-man Ricardo Katza who recovered from an assortment of injuries. He was on the score sheet in his side 6-0 trashing of Jomo Cosmos and will partner will the team's top scorer Laffor to do the damage to the visiting Ugandans.

Kampala City Council (KCC) according to Super Sport website, arrived in South Africa on Wednesday, and are said to be set and ready to cause a major upset in the top flight African championship.
What will be the outcome of the game when the final whistle is blown by Namibian referee Shipanga Alfeus is what remains to be seen.
