Debbah Gives His
Apology

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The captain of the Lone Star of Liberia
James Salinsa Debbah has apologized for refusing to leave the pitch
last Sunday, July 4, 2004 during the match with the Hawks of Togo in
the 2006 Nations Cup and World qualifying round.
He told a local radio station: “that was
bad on my part not to come out of the pitch.”
He added, “I was wrong for not leaving the pitch. I apologize to my
fans.”
Notwithstanding the player vented his anger at the head coach of the
Lone Star Kadallah Kromah who, according to Debbah, is not a
technician.
He added that Kromah has failed to instill a system since he took
over the Lone Star for the second time. “I think the coach should
listen to the senior players.”
On the goalless draw with Togo, Debbah stated that “the
players were just inept. You don’t expect a victory from such team.”
As stated by Debbah, John Menyongar should not
have been deployed in central midfielder rather than on the wings.
Anthony Langford should have played in the middle and Menyongar
should have been offensive than defensive.”
Suggesting, the player said if the team must qualify
for either or both the 2006 Nations Cup and World Cup, there is a
need to assemble majority of those that carried the Lone Star to the
2002 African Cup of Nations finals in Mali. He recommended the likes
of the Joe Nagbe, Zizi Roberts, Oliver Makor and Kelvin Sebwe as
those who could restore the lost glories.
“You need seasoned players not players who will take a
lot of years to mature,” said Debbah.
He also refused to believe that there is program for sports in the
country. He said: “You cannot run sports without a program.”
Meanwhile, Debbah has called it quit from the Lone Star
after several years in the red, white and blue shirt of Liberia.
“This time around, I mean it.”
Debbah noted, “I have paid my dues, so, I have no
regrets. I served my country already.”
