In continuation of the Liberia Football Association 2002-2003 national football league, Monrovia Breweries whipped Black Star 3-1 yesterday at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium. The match should have produced more results had the beer guzzlers from Bushrod Island not wasted so many begging chances.

Breweries’ left full back Dennis Tweh was a thorn in the flesh of the Black Star defense. His overlapping incursions caused a spot kick for the Breweries midway in the first half. Tweh scored the penalty in the 16th minute.

Renewed pressure from the four Black Star forwards however resulted to a foul against Breweries, inches from the 18th yard mark. Black Star’s fleet footed forward, Hadrian Sebwe, leveled the score 1-1 in the 22nd minute with a direct bomber kick that caught goalie Nathaniel Nagbe flat-footed.

The second half saw Breweries dictating the pace, with Alvin Dangan increasing the tally 2-1 against Black Star in the 73th minute.

Four minutes later substitute Bill Davis nailed the coffin on Black Star’s with a tailor-made pass from racy Alvin Dangan.

Tweh missed two sitters in the dying minutes of the second half. Breweries’ Dennis Tweh was the Man of the Match.

Meanwhile, BUSA FC yesterday went down to George Haddad’s Alliance FC 0-3 at the bald-pated pitch of the National Port Authority.

The first half ended on a humdrum goalless note, but the second half produced more fireworks. Alexander Dargbeh of Alliance netted in two quick ones in the 54th and 61st minutes. The first goal was a penalty kick awarded Alliance when a BUSA defender handled the ball in the penalty box.

Jackson Kun sealed BUSA’s doom in the 80th minute to end the match 3-0.

The league continues Friday April 19, with NPA-Anchors battling it out with Young Survivors 4:00p.m. at the National Port Authority stadium. The match promises to be an exciting one, especially for the talent Survivors who, also newcomers to Division One, are considered as “the little axe that cut down forest tree”.

At another venue on the same day, the Antoinette Tubman Stadium will light up when St. Anthony goes against LISCR FC 4:00p.m.
