Steve Davis, the agent for the Liberian international James Koko
Lomell has clarified that he was not part of any deal surrounding
the player's transfer fees.
The former LPRC Oilers player recently signed for FC AK of the South
African first division.
Mr. Davis' clarification came after it was reported in the Monday,
September 4, 2006 edition of The Analyst newspaper that LPRC Oilers
President, Geraldine Doe-Sheriff, was deeply concerned about the
player's transfer fees.
He went on to deny claims by the LPRC Oilers President that: "On
several occasions, we have called Mr. Steve Davis, who is the
architect behind the contract, but he is yet to show up."
Davis said: "Let them prove that they have written me by displaying
the communication sent to me. "They are requesting money, but have
they paid him his salary all these years? "Our office does not even
have the contract LPRC Oilers signed with Koko." Mr. Davis declared
that he was not in South Africa when the player signed the contract,
but said the only role he played as FIFA player agent, was to make
sure the player was happy with the deal.
He stated further that the LPRC Oilers leadership, headed by Sarlee
Sartee, at the time, was informed to send the player's transfer
documents but without response up to now.
Meanwhile, Yanqueh S. Borsay, former Secretary-General of the
Liberia Football Association (LFA), disclosed on Monday that an
International Transfer Certificate (ITC) was issued to the player's
new club, FC AK but without any money being paid.
"The ITC is only to know that the player is playing in the country
he is from, but the ITC does not stop the player from playing for
his new club," Borsay added.
In the absence of an ITC, Mr. Borsay explained that a player could
still be entitled to a provisional clearance until a proper transfer
agreement is worked out.
He noted that the agent is not the one that brings both clubs
together to negotiate transfer fees.
The erstwhile LFA official then advised the LPRC Oilers to seek the
player's transfer fees from his new club, FC AK.
Mr. Borsay made reference to the transfer of Anthony Laffor from
LISCR FC to Obuasi Goldfields of Ghana. At the time, Mr. Borsay said
that an official of LISCR FC, T-Max Jlateh, had to travel to Ghana
to secure the player's transfer fee
