D-Day for Oilers!

June 23, 2006

Members of the Oilers Sports Association (OSA) are expected to go to the polls today to elect a new corps of officers.

The OSA Elections Commission Chairman Alexander Kojo Anderson has cleared four candidates for the today's elections.

According to Commissioner Anderson, the four candidates cleared are those who applied for the various top positions in line with the Saturday, June 17, deadline.

He named the four persons as Geraldine Doe Sheriff as the only candidate for the Presidency; Amanda Bribane, the lone candidate for the position of the Vice President; while George Pusah and James Jappah are also lone candidates for the positions of Secretary General and Business Manager respectively.

The OSA EC boss, who has already communicated with the cleared candidates, said all is now set for the elections to be held today Friday, June 23, at the LPRC Compound on Bushrod Island.

With the clearance of the four candidates by the OSA EC Chairman, is clear that today's elections will be of less interest as they will only be opting for a white ballot from the over 100 eligible voters.

Pundits say the sailing through of the four candidates without contesting is a clear indication that they have the technical and administrative skill, especially for the female football Iron Lady Geraldine Doe Sheriff.

Now Madam Sheriff's quest for the Presidency needs no questioning as she will be the first elected female football club President in history, compared to female football presidents who have been endorsed by board members.

The declaration by the Oilers Sports Association (OSA) President in waiting, who is the founder of current female champions Titoe United, for the Oilers' top office was highly received by many Liberians.

According to them, Madam Sheriff should be afforded the opportunity to contribute her quota at the apex of management of the game in the country.

They noted Madam Sheriff has a wealth of experience, after playing the game prior to the civil conflict, where she became a star with the Lioness.

Also, as President of the country's leading football female club Titoe United Sisters, Lady Zico, as she is fondly known due to her exquisite style of football during her days as a footballer, has shown purpose and command in executing her managerial functions.

"The highly exalted position of the Presidency for the Oilers Sports Association (OSA) would be an idea task without an erudite Sports Administrator," they indicated.

Madam Sheriff's quest for the Oilers Presidency will indeed serve as a motivation for other sports ladies to get on board.

She worked with bulk of the players, and her bid for the Presidency could make a difference.

"Going unopposed has showed a clear sign that Madam Sheriff is capable for the task ahead in revamping the association's prewar status," they observed.
