Clubs Plot LFA Executive’s Removal
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Abayomi Ola Caulcrock could be constrained or compelled to
relinquish one of two major posts he is currently occupying.
Mr. Caulcrick doubles as Executive Committee Member of the Liberia
Football Association (LFA) and Assistant Minister for Youth Services
of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
He recently replaced Timothy Al Paulus in the job at the Youth and
Sports Ministry after the latter failed to appear for confirmation
hearings at the Liberian Senate.
Before then, he got reelected on the LFA Executive Committee during
the elections held this year.
However, second division clubs that he has been representing over
the years are opposed to his dual capacity.
At their meeting last week at the Antoinette Tubman Stadium (ATS),
the division two clubs met to discuss the matter and accused their
representative of conflict of interest.
They are expected to meet again this week and a vote of no
confidence or the withdrawal of Mr. Caulcrick from the LFA Executive
Committee cannot be ruled out.
The club's opposition to Mr. Caulcrick's presence at both the LFA
and the Youth and Sports Ministry could be attributed to persistent
rows between the two groups over the years, in most cases when it
comes to which side should have the major say in controlling the
national soccer team, Lone Star.
Notwithstanding, there are others who are with the conviction that
Mr. Caulcrick fell out of favor with his constituency after it has
been observed that he is among LFA Executive Committee members that
have been objecting to the nominations of those appointed as General
Secretary of the LFA by the President, Cllr. S. Izetta Wesley.
Yanqueh S. Borsay and Malcolm Peegee Wright were nominated by the
LFA boss, yet they were rejected.
Now they have John Rufus Ballah before them.
Mr. Caulcrick has yet to react to the concerns being raised by the
clubs that he is representing on the LFA Executive Committee.
It is not known as to which of the two positions in question that
Mr. Caulcrick would chose to keep and the one to abandon
