Changes In
Liberian Football Leadership

By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
The Liberia Football Association (LFA) has effected some changes in
its leadership structure.
During the 11th Ordinary Congress of the LFA on Saturday, March 26,
two new faces took over the post of Vice President for Administration
and Vice President for Operations.
The delegates to the congress, representing clubs in the top divisions
as well as those from the LFA Sub-Associations and Committees and
affiliates, elected Siaka A. Sheriff as Vice President for
Administration and Pennoh W. Bestman to the position of Vice President
for Operations.
Mr. Sheriff has succeeded Cllr. S. Izetta Wesley who has since last
year taken over as president of the LFA after Edwin Snowe quit the
post.
The easy-going and soft-spoken Siaka A. Sheriff has previously served
as Vice President for Operations having defeated James Koinyan and
Samuel Jlakrong in the 2001 elections held in Kakata, Margibi County.
Sheriff is married to the former female soccer star Geraldine
Doe-Sheriff. She heads the Tito United, a top side in the female
second division.
Mr. Sheriff is the Comptroller of the Liberian Petroleum Refining
Company (LPRC). He served previously as Deputy Managing Director for
Administration of the LPRC and President of the Oilers Sports
Association.
The new LFA Vice President for Operations Pennoh W. Betsman is also
president of first division side Black Star.
Bestman challenged Cllr. Izetta Wesley for the Vice President for
Administration post in 2001 but was defeated.
He is currently in the employ of the Finance Ministry, where he works
in the newly created Large Task Unit having served as Commissioner of
Internal Revenues.
Mr. Bestman is the son of the former Finance Minister and National
Bank Governor, Hon. John Bestman.
