The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has
re-enforced the 3-year suspension imposed on LPRC Oilers in 2000 when
the club withdrew from the 4th edition of the CAF Champions' League.
In a communication sent to LFA Secretariat, CAF
said LPRC Oilers is not allowed to participate in any of its
competitions because the club is still serving suspension handed her
in 2000 when she withdrew from the Champions' League.
Expounding on the communication, LFA Chief Scribe
Yanqueh S. Borsay said CAF has informed the Football House that LPRC
Oilers cannot participate in the 5th edition of the CAF Champions'
League which kicks off in April of next year.
Mr. Borsay disclosed that LPRC Oilers' name was sent to
CAF as Liberia's champion and representative for the CAF Champions'
League at the end of the LFA league. He said Oilers could not be
paired with any club because of the 3-year suspension.
LPRC Oilers was also one of the clubs that did not
register on time for the CAF Competition up to the expiration of the
deadline in November of this year.
The re-enforcement of the suspension by CAF on LPRC Oilers
will keep the club out of CAF Competitions, something which will make
the club to lose its players. Most of the players had hoped to play in
international competition with Oilers, but the 3-year suspension has
spoiled the chance.
Meanwhile, the LFA Chief Scribe has disclosed that second
division giants Mighty Blue Angels have been paired against Asante
Kotoko of Ghana in the CAF Cup-Winners-Cup Competition, which kicks of
in April of 2003.
According to Mr. Borsay, Kotoko will play host to Mighty Blue
Angels of Liberia on the weekend of April 11-13,2003 in Ghana, while
the return leg takes place on the weekend of April 25-27, 2003 in
Liberia.
As far as the CAF Cup is concerned, LISCR FC, is paired
against Enugu Rangers of Nigeria despite not being registered in the
competition. Mr. Borsay said the club was paired because its name was
sent as runners-up of the LFA league to CAF.
He stated further LISCR FC still has a chance once the team
meets up with the registration requirements set by CAF.
