Brooks
Backs Izetta Wesley

Mr. Edward J. Brooks, Sr.
By Julu M. Johnson, Jr.
Opponents of the female President of the Liberia Football
Association (LFA) may be gearing up for another attempt to remove
her, but there are still some football stakeholders (or die-hard
loyalists) somewhere holding tightly unto their allegiance for Cllr.
Sombo Izetta Wesley.
Cllr. Wesley’s rivals moved a step closer in showing their dislike
for her leadership by boycotting the closing program for the 2009
National League on Monday, March 16, 2009 at the Antoinette Tubman
Stadium (ATS) on Lynch Street in Monrovia.
However, their action has irritated the Chairman of the West-Clara
Sub-Committee of the LFA, Mr. Edward Brooks, Sr., a longtime ally of
the LFA President.
Mr. Brooks made it clear that he remains a loyalist of Cllr. Wesley
in spite of the numerous attempts being made to oust her from the
leadership of Liberian football.
The West-Clara Sub-Committee Chairman described Cllr. Wesley as a
true lover of sports and someone who has done well in developing
football.
Mr. Brooks informed those wanting to change the LFA leadership to
wait for the electioneering period.
Mr. Brooks said, “Let the ballot box decide who is the next
President of the LFA and not politics as it is being done by some of
the stakeholders.”
He mentioned, “Concerning the closing program, I noticed that the
Vice President for Operations (Mr. Adolph Lawrence) was absent.
“He (Lawrence and cohorts have shown themselves as the troublemakers
at the LFA by not attending the program,” the Chairman of the
West-Clara LFA Sub-Committee indicated.
Mr. Brooks challenged the LFA Vice President for Operations to
resign if there is a problem he has with Cllr. Wesley.
“He (Lawrence) is in the glass house and throwing stones. As for
Moustapha Raji (President of LISCR FC), he proved to be a sports
lover with a passion for the game. For this, I must commend him for
attending the closing program on Monday,” Mr. Brooks noted.
He added, “The stay away of Mr. Lawrence and others has clearly
shown that the problem is not with Madam Wesley but with them.”
He went on to comment on reports that anti-Izetta Wesley elements
have been holding secret meetings to make sure that heads of the LFA
Sub-Committees in Montserrado County do not have an individual say
at any Congress.
“If Montserrado County will be represented by one person, then we
ask Presidents of all 4th and 3rd division teams to attend Congress
in order to have a true representation of the youth,” Mr. Brooks
stated.
