Borsay Reign Ends

Former LFA General Secretary, Yanqueh Borsay
July 9, 2006
At long last the reign of LFA secretary General Yanqueh Borsay has
ended. Mr.Borsay's tenure with the local football house ended on
Thursday via a tense period of voting as whether to maintain him or
not.
After the highly intriguing exercise involving Executive committee
(EC) members of the LFA, Borsay was booted out by a vote of 8-6 to
the discontentment of LFA boss Sombo Izetta Wesley who was leading
the way for the chief scribe to maintain his post.
Creditable reports gathered by the Analyst say Vice President for
Administration Pennoh Bestman abstained from the exercise. After the
process an EC member who preferred anonymity indicated "We had to do
this in order to save Liberian Football". Mr.Borsay became LFA chief
scribe during the administration of former president Edwin Snowe. He
had being at the center of several controversial issues. One glaring
example is the continuous sending of players International Transfer
Certificates (ITC) to clubs and FAs round the world.
Observers say the exit of Borsay is long over due, and now that it
is done there is a need to chapter a new course in driving the
country's football forward.
Article VII: Section 8.1 of the LFA Status Says "The General
Secretary shall be employed by the Executive Committee on a legal
contract basis for four years, renewable in event of good
performance. He/She shall head the secretariat; keep the minutes of
the meetings of the Congress. He/She shall, in consultation with the
Executive Committee, recommend for the employment and dismissal of
the staff and the management of the secretariat.
The onus is now on the LFA boss to nominate a new Secretary General
in consent with the Executive Committee. In the time being, deputy
Secretary General Napoleon Japloe would be serving as the Secretary
General.
